Youngest Black Osteopathic Physician
After graduating from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Ashley Roxanne Peterson became the youngest black female osteopathic physician in America at the age of 24!
Dr. Peterson grew up with a military family which not only meant she moved around a lot, but she discovered her passion for helping others.
Dr. Peterson is now a resident physician working in young family medicine at the Morehouse School of Medicine. This isn't the first amazing feat, Dr. Peterson also graduated from high school at 15 and college at 19. At the University of North Carolina, she studied Anthropology and minored in Sociology.
Due to her young age, Dr. Peterson was faced with many doubting her along her way. She did not let them get to her as she made history.
Here is a quote from the first Black woman to earn a Ph.D. from MIT, Shirley Ann Jackson:
“Treasure your curiosity and nurture your imagination. Have confidence in yourself. Do not let others put limits on you. Dare to imagine the unimaginable.”
