Biden Seeking Black Female Judge for SCOTUS

Upon the news of Justice Stephen Breyers' imminent retirement, the news has been inundated with the prospect of President Biden selecting a Black Female Judge.

At a debate in 2020, the then-presidential candidate, Biden announced that if he was to be elected to be the next President of the US and there was an opening on the Supreme Court he would select a Black Female.

Only two Black judges have ever served on the Supreme: Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and Justice Clarence Thomas. It seems that now Biden is trying to make good on his promise. There are several highly qualified Black Females on the judicial shortlist. To name a few there are, Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger, NAACP Legal Defense Fund President Sherrilyn Ifill, Judge J. Michelle Childs of the Federal District Court in Columbia, S.C., and Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit,

“President Biden won this election, in part, due to the efforts of Black women who worked tirelessly on his behalf,” says NYU Law School professor Melissa Murray. “They will expect him to honor this promise. And he will need them as he presses his domestic agenda and prepares for 2024. Professor Murray is also on the shortlist of nominees.

The nominations process will include interviews and once a nominee is chosen hearings which could take a couple of months. Biden’s historic choice to the Supreme Court would reflect the diversity of our great country. Stay tuned to see who will make history and secure a seat on the Supreme Court of the Land.

As you go out to do incredible things today, I will leave you with this quote from the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg:
