Exposure Matters Book Drive!

Giving is caring. In an effort to help underserved communities who are in need of books, Exposure Matters.com has been collecting books since the pandemic. All three high schools in my school district, nonprofit organizations, and local donors have all donated to this book drive.

My request for books has evolved from just school-aged books to books that are written by African American authors and multicultural books. I can distinctly remember the first book I read that was written by an African American author, Christopher Paul Curtis’ The Watsons Go To Birmingham. There was a connection that I felt to the characters and storyline. I also felt a sense of pride due to the author’s ethnicity. As an African American student in a predominantly white high school, it can be hard to find others that have similar experiences to mine. Reading from black authors was a great way for me to know that I am not alone in my thoughts on certain issues. Having students read books where the characters look like them or with authors that look like them may just spark their love for reading like mine.

If you would like to help in this effort and donate a book or two, please contact me at my email: exposurematterscontact@gmail.com
