March is Women’s History Month

Every year March is designated as Women’s History Month by Presidential proclamation. This month-long celebration grew out of a weeklong celebration from a school district in California in 1978. The organizers selected the week of March 8th to correspond with International Women’s Day. The movement spread across the country with other communities initiating their own Women’s History Week celebrations in the following years, and in 1987 Congress declared the whole month of March Women’s History Month.

We celebrate Women’s History Month every year to celebrate and honor the accomplishments of women in our society. As this month continues, proceed to honor the women who have changed society, but also remember to honor the women who have changed your lives.

We have many women that we need to celebrate from the late Civil rights activist Rosa Parks, the late great actress Cicely Tyson, the first black ballerina with the American ballet theatre Misty Copeland, and our very first Black Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris.

Here is a quote from a great dancer Misty Copeland:

“All you can do is be your best self. I'm representing more than just me. I think everyone should be like that.”

Be Amazing! 🍋
